Haena campground is located on the north shore of Kauai. Close to the end of the road, this campground is a great place to sleep before heading to the Kalalau trail. The campground is practically on the beach and offers incredible views.
Downsides:
It is only accessible by car (6,1 miles to hanalei).
The beach is usually closed during winter time because of the high surf.
It is home to a lot of roosters that wakes you up at 2 am.
Upsides:
Not to crowded and touristic.
Great location for hikers of the Kalalau.
The camping fee is pretty cheap ($3 per person if payed before and $5 per person if payed directly at the campground).
Great facilities (washrooms, water and showers are provided).
The camping is safe.
Rating: 4/5
I fell in love with this place from the minute I got there and would definitely recommend it for anyone that is looking for a peaceful place to appreciate nature.
